Introduction

Propaganda plays a significant role in our mass mediated culture.  It's made up of three parts: information, disinformation, and non-information.  What's left out of a message can have as much effect on its persuasiveness as what's in the message.

The purpose of propaganda is to encourage a certain viewpoint.  Its purpose is also to encourage action.

How do propaganda messages affect our values, attitudes, and opinions  ?   In answering this question we should consider both the dominant culture and the target audience, i.e. the wider context of the message.
