Privatization of Radio and Media Hegemony in Turkey
Turkish Radio Online
Media in Turkey Until the early 1980s, television in Turkey was limited to a single state-run channel, which was closely controlled by the authorities.
Turkish Radio and Television Corporation (TRT) and Buena Vista International Television (Walt Disney) signed a cooperation protocol. Taking the floor at the signing ceremony, State Minister Beşir Atalay said: “With this agreement, TRT has acquired the exclusive right to broadcast Walt Disney’s animated cartoons and movie films in Turkey,” and noted that this would be a four-year accord. Atalay said this agreement with Walt Disney would be the most comprehensive agreement of Turkey signed in this area and wished this agreement could continue between the two esteemed broadcasting institutions on the international broadcasting platform.
